Workshop #2: LiDAR Data Management and Exploitation for State & Local Government

Location: Education Training Facility Auditorium

Time: 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Is your state or local government or DOT utilizing or considering using LIDAR data? If so, you know that LIDAR technology has become a valuable tool in a variety of applications where an accurate surface model is required.   The availability of LiDAR data is resulting in a profusion of very large datasets requiring solutions for management and exploitation.

During this workshop, we will highlight the benefits of LiDAR data, and explore the local, state and DOT workflows using LiDAR data (and other data types) in response to a natural disaster. Using the recent tornados across Alabama as our scenario, we will demonstrate the managing, exploitation and dissemination of LiDAR in emergency planning, recovery and rebuilding.

Topics Covered:

  • What is LiDAR?
  • Statewide LiDAR coverage – Benefits and Challenges
  • Local Government Response to Natural Disaster
  • State Government
  • Server-side Exploitation
  • Enterprise Distribution and Review
  • Transportation Focus: State DOT Response
  • Local Government Tax Assessment  (2 months after disaster)
