Rocket City Geospatial Conference 2010 – Call For Presentations


The Rocket City Geospatial Conference is seeking presentations for the conference. Please use the following guidelines and see the list of topics that we are seeking in the next section on this page:

  • Call for Presentations: August 1 until October 1, 2010
  • Acceptance of presentations: October 15, 2010
  • Complete agenda published on October 20, 2010

Key Topics for 2010


When considering to respond to our call for presentations this year, please use the following list of key topics that have been recommended by the organizing committee as a guide for submission:

  1. How to do a better job of cost effectiveness during project implementation in an era of tight budgets.
    • Taking the lessons learned from the crisis relief efforts in Haiti and Chili and turning them into everyday best practices

  3. Full Motion Video (UAV).
  4. Crisis Mapping.
    • Mapping efforts during the Haitian and Chilean relief efforts
    • Situational Awareness: providing geospatial information in near real-time or real-time to give ground commanders and NGO's necessary support
  5. Dept of Labor and the Geospatial Technology Competency Model.
    • what it means for training the next generation of geospatial professionals

Requirements for Speakers


IMPORTANT: Please read carefully.

  1. Selected speakers will need to register for the conference ($100).
  2. We require speakers to provide information in an educational, non-commercial, non-self-promotional manner. You are also required to allow us to share the content of your presentation (e.g. slides and audio) in an educational format to allow individuals who were not able to attend to gain a sense of what was discussed. Directions Media holds the copyright to this presentation of the information.
  3. Please send your presentation to Nora by Nov. 1st or bring it to the conference on a thumb drive or CD.
  4. We require your permission to publish your name, company and session topic on the Internet, in direct mail and magazine ads for purposes of marketing the conference.
  5. Plan on speaking for 15 minutes.


Evaluation Criteria


IMPORTANT: Please read carefully.

  1. Due to the abbreviated length of the program this year, only 15 proposals can be accepted. Please submit your abstracts as soon as possible.
  2. We are seeking proposals that feature existing projects or solutions-based case studies where significant results can be discussed.
  3. We prefer presentations to be original works presented at this conference for the first time. Please indicate if you paper or presentation has been delivered previously.
  4. The Rocket City Geospatial organizing committee will make final speaker selections. You will be notified by October 15th, whether your proposal has been accepted.
