Spencer Collier

Spencer Collier was appointed on December 23, 2010, by Governor Robert Bentley to serve as Alabama’s third Director of Homeland Security.  Director Collier attended Troy University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Director Collier was a City of Prichard Police Officer before joining the Alabama Department of Public Safety. Working as an Alabama State Trooper for nearly ten years, he served with the Highway Patrol, Administrative Divisions and was assigned to Special Operations.

Director Collier served as a State Representative for the 105th District in Mobile. He was first elected in 2002, then re-elected in 2006 and 2010. While serving as a Representative, he was a member of the Criminal Justice Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Executive Committee of the Coastal Recovery Commission, among others. During Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina, he served as an Alabama Department of Public Safety spokesperson and led legislative efforts to coordinate federal, state, and local recovery operations. In addition, Director Collier was influential in the creation of the Alabama Department of Homeland Security by serving on the Public Safety Committee, which drafted the bill to form the department in 2003
